Formula

Wet Volume = Length × Width × Thickness; Total Volume = Wet Volume × (1 + Waste/100)

Worked Example

For a slab 10 m × 8 m × 0.15 m, wet volume = 12.00 m³. With 5% waste, total concrete = 12.60 m³.

For safety-critical structural design, always verify assumptions and consult a qualified engineer where required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Useful short answers to common questions about this topic.

Why add waste?

A small waste percentage covers spillage, uneven surfaces and minor site variation.

Can I use this for slabs only?

No. The same volume principle is valid for most rectangular concrete members.
